A busy oil industry subcontractor, Airdrie-based Comac Precision Engineering, has added a second horizontal machining centre to meet increasing demand.
Although a relatively young company Comac has grown rapidly since its inception in 2006 by taking a flexible approach that allows it to meet challenging customer deadlines.
From the start the company invested in the latest machining techniques and tooling technology and manufactures a variety of complex components from a wide range of ferrous, non-ferrous and plastics/composite materials. A computerised production system provides real time manufacturing tracking.
Explaining the rapid expansion of the company’s client base, Comac Precision Engineering Ltd, managing director, David Wilson Explained. “As we set-out with clearly defined goals and an in-depth understanding of the requirements of our target industries, we were able to obtain the most relevant machine tools for our specific needs, and also to employ the calibre of staff that would help to ensure a high yield of quality components.
Its first purchase was a Victor Vcenter-H500 horizontal machining centre that impressed the company with its high metal removal rate and ability to ability to consistently produce components to demanding tolerances. So as demand increased it purchased a second similar machine.
“As our two ‘flag-ship’ machines have proven so successful, as the company grows further, we intend to purchase a third Vcenter-H500 to help us keep pace with the growing demand for our services,” says Mr Wilson.
